Insomnia Development
Presents:
A multiplayer open-world survival game, blending city management and intense first-person combat, set in a historical fantasy world during a high medieval era. Explore the island, command its resources, and survive against the arcane forces of the Spriggan. Manage your settlement by day, and stand firm against relentless nocturnal attacks.
Build your castle, lead your citizens, gather resources, and train your soldiers by day to prepare for relentless nocturnal assaults from the arcane underworld.
At Spriggan's core lies realism. Every element in the world serves a purpose. See a bird soaring overhead? It’s not just decoration—it’s an opportunity. Hunt it for feathers to craft arrows, set traps to catch it, or use its meat to cook a hearty stew for your citizens.
Hunters and gatherers venture across the island, foraging for herbs, berries, and prey. But beware—you’re not the only one stalking the woods. Wolves, bears, and other predators lurk in the wild. If the forests feel too dangerous, perhaps fishing offers a safer, steadier way to sustain your people.
What is Spriggan ?
Set in a high-medieval, fantasy world with a strong emphasis on realism, Spriggan explores a land transformed by an asteroid carrying the Harmonomorphis lifeform, a source of psychic abilities perceived as arcane magic. The Pergamon Empire reclaims an island in the Azores, revealing such powerful crystal veins that both engineers and psycers attempt to harness. But mysterious nightly abductions soon disrupt the peace, plunging the stronghold into crisis.
The player steps into this unfolding mystery.
In Spriggan, you are but one cog in a larger machine, where strategy and experience are your only tools—there are no shortcuts. Player agency is central, and every action carries weight; you will die. Yet, why should one death be the downfall of your stronghold, you may be replaced by a less qualified citizen until your economy crumbles under the rising pressure of nightly attacks and lack of combat ready knights, archers or engineers to fortify your defences. Coordinating your resources wisely, oversighting your food production and researching vital technologies call for careful decision making. Even so, attack is imminent, pick up arms and defend the volatile crystals in your castle’s keep- If the husk of a Spriggan reaches them, the resulting explosion of the minerals will end us all. We are to survive as many nights as possible to exploit the minerals and explore the Island to unveil the arcane source to bring an end to this madness; if all fails and new men aren't inbound by night, it may be in our best interest to abandon the settlement and flee in shame, rather than dying with honor . . .
Working with Experts
When it comes to crafting an authentic archery system, who better to consult than someone who lives and breathes the art? Dash Rendar, a medieval enthusiast, gamer, and seasoned heavy war-bow archer, has been instrumental in ensuring Spriggan’s archery mechanics reflect the true challenges and rewards of mastering the bow.
The Archery System: A Showcase of Our Commitment to Realism
Unlike fast-paced shooters where you play the unstoppable hero, Spriggan puts you in the role of a ruler balancing the complexities of managing a kingdom. You’re just one part of a greater whole—a cog in the vast machinery of your realm. Attempt to single-handedly take on a towering three-meter stone golem, and you’ll quickly realize the importance of preparation, strategy, and teamwork.
Survival means carefully building your realm and honing your skills. Specialize in ranged combat, melee, engineering, or arcane arts, and shape your playstyle to complement your growing kingdom.
Deciding to lead an army of archers—and becoming one yourself—is no easy path. Spriggan’s archery system is designed to capture the weight and precision of real bowmanship:
Strength Matters: Drawing a heavy war bow isn’t just about agility; it requires immense strength. Forget sprinting around while drawing—stationary focus is key.
The Draw: Timing, posture, and concentration determine your shot's success. You’ll feel the tension as you draw and hold your aim, with stamina and accuracy playing a critical role.
Realistic Trajectory: Every arrow behaves like a physical object—affected by gravity, wind, and distance. Mastering the bow is as much about skill as it is about understanding your environment.
This realism isn’t meant to frustrate—it’s meant to immerse. The joy of landing a perfect shot or commanding a skilled team of archers is unmatched. - Thank you Dash for not only providing essential intel but being just as hyped about Spriggan as we are!
Additional Information
Spriggan is a hosted multiplayer game, offering both immersive single-player gameplay and the flexibility to invite as many players into your world as your PC can handle.
Spriggan is brimming with rich features—so many that it would take pages to explain them all. Instead, we’re creating videos to showcase the mechanics in a more engaging and accessible way.
Some examples are: No HUD/UI visual inventory system for an immersive experience. Entity stats and leveling systems that cover players, citizens, jobs, tools, an in-game skill tree, and a permanent skill tree—each with its own unique mechanics
The world is a 2x3 km island, on the east side there is a sizeable inlet which a big river flows into which the player starts at, in the next 300 meters west there is the main “city” that stretches alongside the north side of a windy river which the player plays in. To the north of the city are highland meadows and seaside cliffs, to the south there are meadows and light forests and rivers originating from a mountain lake ⅓ from the west shore of the map, to the south west there is a semi-mountainous highland area, and to the northwest there is a dark brooding forest area
By day, the city is your canvas. Explore its confines, delve into the mysterious swamp, and allocate your citizens to essential roles. From farmers to researchers, from builders to guards, every job is crucial in fortifying your stronghold. Prosperity lies in your hands – manage your resources wisely, expand your domain with new structures, and enhance your defenses with innovative technology. 'Spriggan' offers a dynamic day-and-night experience.

Release Roadmap
Spriggan - is set for release between August and December 2025. Born from the chaos of a one-week game jam, we spent a year embracing trial, error, and growth through relentless 7-day work weeks. After that, with guidance from our mentor Eddie, we deleted our initial Unity project—more a kitbash of disjointed ideas—to refine Spriggan's core game loop, focusing on cohesive design and technical feasibility, to rebuild it from scratch in just over half a year. We learned from our errors and filled the gaps, to turn Spriggan into a playable game and became fully self-funded by expanding our network. Now, we have a clear path forward, and we’re excited to share the next steps toward Spriggan’s release.

Funding overview
With a small, efficient team, we operate independently through a mix of public support and private funding. This approach allows us to stay true to our vision without the constraints of traditional funding. Recently, Émile and Dominic joined Mike & Ben as full-time members, strengthening our core team and driving development forward.
Team & Expansion
Our core team consists of Mike (Art & Business), Ben (Code), Émile (Marketing), and Dominic (Technical-Artist / Optimization). To further expand our capabilities, we're seeking a full-time animator and possibly a specialized 3D character artist or a versatile generalist. The last 1.5 years have proven to us—and others—that our approach is not only feasible but highly effective. Our focus on an agile, generalist strategy allows us to compete with larger studios while maintaining the flexibility to adapt quickly to challenges.
Special Thanks
A special thanks to Eddie, a seasoned 40-year-old Hollywood 3D artist and game development studio owner. He encouraged us to take a bold step—scrapping a year’s worth of progress to refine the core game loop of Legacy Spriggan. Eddie provided the knowledge we needed and helped us craft a roadmap that meets industry standards. His guidance, along with support from Dominic—another experienced game development studio owner with several released titles, who has since joined us full-time—has been instrumental. Thanks to Eddie’s push, we achieved more in just over half a year than we ever thought possible, evolving from serious hobbyists into a professional indie studio with nine dedicated team members contributing to the delivery of Spriggan . . .
Heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us along the way
Mike & Ben

Extra Impressions
Below are some highlights from the past year—a glimpse into the creativity and passion behind Spriggan.
We’re always looking for fun and unique ways to give back to our community. Whether it’s through cosplays, crafting drinkable health and mana potions, prototyping hand-made merchandise, 3D-printing characters, or Mike personally building wooden crates for content creators, we aim to surprise and delight. These crates might even become a limited collector’s edition at launch!
You’ll also spot a 3D scanner and motion capture suit, both of which play key roles in bringing our animations to life. And of course, the star of the show: Eren, our orange cat mascot. His sister, Phoebe (not pictured here), also sends her regards!
Thank you for scrolling all the way to the bottom. We’d love to hear from you—join our Discord server to chat with us directly! We’re working tirelessly to bring Spriggan to life, and your support means everything.
